We cover most electric motorbikes and mopeds from reputable manufacturers. Here's what we specialise in:
Perfect for urban riders and those on CBT licenses. We cover popular models like the NIU NQi series, Super Soco CPx, and Vmoto Soco TC Max.
These bikes are ideal for congestion charge zones, short commutes, and riders building experience on quieter, eco-friendly machines.
For A2 license holders and experienced riders looking for more power, we cover bikes like the Zero FXE, Energica Ego, and Maeving RM1.
These bikes offer strong performance, longer range, and premium build quality for serious riders.
We don't currently cover Sur-Ron, Talaria, or Stark models. These bikes fall into a grey area for road use and aren't within our underwriting appetite.
If your bike isn't listed above, contact us to check eligibility – we may still be able to help.
To get the right policy for your electric motorcycle or moped, it's important to understand your cover options. Not sure which level you need? Request a callback and we'll help you choose.
This is the most extensive level of electric motorbike or moped insurance cover. Fully Comprehensive motorcycle insurance includes:
Damage to your own bike and any third party from accidents – whether it's your fault or not
Fire damage, theft and compensation for your damaged bike (replacement only if less than 1 year old and policy terms apply)
As the name suggests, it's the most comprehensive cover for your vehicle.
This option covers you for:
Injury to other people, or damage to vehicles or property in the case of an accident
If your Piaggio is stolen or damaged from an attempted theft
Fire damage
If you're responsible for an accident, third party fire and theft (TPFT) doesn't cover the cost of repairing your electric moped or motorcycle.
This is the minimum legal cover in the UK. It covers you for:
Any damage you cause to someone else’s property or person.
It doesn't cover damage to your own moped or scooter or injury to yourself. It also won't cover the costs of replacing your vehicle if it's stolen, or fire damage.

If you want to know about...
Yes. You must have insurance to ride your electric motorbike on public roads.
Whether you have a provisional or a full bike licence, we can offer an insurance policy tailored to you.
Electric motorcycles, scooters and mopeds are gaining in popularity year on year, however, the electric motorbike market is still relatively small compared to normal combustion engine bikes, and there has seemingly been a slow uptake in insurers wanting to provide competitive rates on electric motorcycles. Here at Lexham, we are proud to offer insurance on most electric motorcycles and mopeds in the UK.
Many electric motorcycles are quiet which means they can be deemed more of a risk by Insurers, as they are not heard so easily compared to most petrol-powered motorcycles. Expensive batteries and a smaller market can also see some Insurers rate electric motorcycles as high risk, which then means higher insurance premiums. At Lexham we offer insurance cover on most electric mopeds, scooters and motorcycles, it is only high-performance electric sports bikes that we are unable to offer cover for.
Some insurance companies only offer Third-party insurance on electric motorcycles, and not Third-party, Fire and Theft or Fully Comprehensive. This is normally because that Insurer deems that individual risk (your motorcycle insurance quotation) to be too high a risk to insure for these higher levels of insurance cover. Sometimes it can be the electric motorcycle itself which the Insurer may deem too high risk. At Lexham we can offer Fully Comprehensive, Third-party, Fire and Theft and Third-party insurance on most electric motorcycles, scooters and mopeds, though this will depend on each individual quotation.
As leaders in the electric motorbike insurance market, our team can help you get an insurance quotation on most electric manufacturers and models in the UK, including Zero, VMoto Soco, NIU, Energica, Maeving, and many others.
The cost of your insurance will depend on a range of different factors (including, but not limited to):
Make & Model of Bike
Displacement/Engine Size
Age of Rider
Location & Occupation
Annual Mileage & Usage
Previous Convictions or Riding Offences
Lexham is committed to providing competitive insurance policies on a wide range of different two-wheeled vehicles.
If you want to know about...
Yes, you do. It's against the law to ride on UK roads without at least third-party insurance, even if you've only got a provisional licence.
Electric motorcycles and mopeds follow the same insurance requirements as petrol bikes.
To get a quote, you'll need:
Your bike's registration number
The make and model
Your riding licence details (whether you've passed your CBT, and what type of licence you hold – A1, A2 or full A)
Your postcode
Your date of birth
Details of any previous claims, convictions or accidents in the last five years
Your no claims bonus (if you have one)
How you'll use the bike (social and commuting, business use, delivery, etc.)
Your estimated annual mileage
Don't worry if you haven't got all the details to hand – request a callback and we can help you through the quote.

We don't currently cover: Sur-Ron, Talaria, or Stark models. These bikes fall into a grey area for road use classification.

If you want to know about...
Electric motorcycles can be more expensive to insure for several reasons:
Battery costs: Electric bike batteries are expensive to replace, making theft or damage claims significantly more costly
Perceived risk: Electric bikes are quieter than petrol bikes, which some insurers see as increasing collision risk with pedestrians
Smaller market: Fewer insurers offer electric bike cover, reducing competition
Newer technology: Electric bikes can depreciate faster due to battery degradation concerns
At Lexham, we specialise in electric bikes and can offer competitive rates because we understand these vehicles.
The cost of your insurance depends on many factors, including your bike, your age, your riding experience, where you live, and how you use your electric motorcycle or moped.
Battery replacement cost and bike value are particularly important factors for electric bikes.
Get a quote to see your exact price.
There are several ways to bring your premium down:
Security: Fitting additional insurance-approved trackers to your bike can provide discounts. Keep your bike in a secure garage or premises overnight if possible. Mechanical locks are a policy requirement.
Your riding record: Accruing your no claims bonus is the single most efficient way of building up discounts on your insurance quote. Avoid points on your licence.
Policy choices: You could choose a higher voluntary excess to lower your insurance premium. However, take care in ensuring you would still be able to afford the excess should a claim arise, and that the value of the excess does not exceed the value of your vehicle.
Request a callback and we can talk through more ways to lower your premium.
If you want to know about...
Yes. Under comprehensive cover, your battery is included as part of your bike's market value. If your bike is stolen or written off, the battery value is included in the compensation.
What's not covered: Battery degradation or failure due to wear and tear is not covered under any insurance policy.
You need to tell us about any modifications, both when you're getting a quote and any time you make changes during your policy. That includes battery upgrades, motor tuning, performance modifications, or any aftermarket parts.
Modifications will usually increase your premium, but we'll work to find you competitive cover. If you're in doubt about whether something counts as a modification, please ask us.
