Unlike standard motorcycle insurance, classic bikes need specialist cover. That's why we've created a dedicated classic motorcycle scheme with features designed specifically for classics - from British heritage bikes to Japanese 2-strokes of the 80s and 90s.
With over 25 years of experience insuring motorcycles and our own claims team, we understand what classic owners need: agreed value cover, salvage retention, spare parts protection, and acceptance of modifications.
We’ve designed our classic scheme specifically for motorcycles built 20+ years ago. We understand that classic bikes aren't just vehicles - they're investments, projects, and pieces of history.
Whether you're restoring a Norton Commando, collecting Japanese 2-strokes, or riding a Triumph Bonneville on weekends, we've got specialist cover designed for you.
The scheme covers both 2-stroke and 4-stroke classics from any manufacturer, and we accept bikes undergoing restoration as well as fully roadworthy machines.
If your classic is written off, you'll want to keep the remains - whether for parts, rebuilding, or sentimental reasons.
With salvage retention included, you'll be offered both a financial settlement and the option to keep your bike's salvage. You don't lose the parts you've spent years collecting.
We also include spare parts cover as standard (within your agreed value), protecting those hard-to-find components you've accumulated over the years.
Classic bikes are often modified - whether restored to original specification or tastefully upgraded. We understand this and accept modifications as part of classic ownership.
You'll need to declare your modifications when getting a quote and throughout your policy, and we assess each bike individually to ensure you get the right cover.
Market value doesn't reflect what your classic is truly worth - especially if you've spent years restoring it.
Our agreed value cover means we agree on your bike's value at the start of your policy. If you make a total loss claim, you'll receive the agreed amount - not a depreciated market value that doesn't account for your time, effort and investment.
For most classics, values are auto-agreed within our parameters. For non-standard valuations, our underwriter reviews and agrees the value with you directly.
We work with our own dedicated claims handlers right here in our UK office, with claims administered on behalf of Lexham by Marble Arch. This means:
More flexibility. We assess your individual circumstances and your bike's unique value; we don't just tick boxes.
Direct relationship. Speak to the people who understand classic bikes and handle your claim.
Our team is here from start to finish.

We cover classic motorcycles built 20+ years ago from all manufacturers. Whether it's a British classic, a Japanese 2-stroke, or a European machine, our specialist scheme is designed to protect bikes with history.
Norton, Triumph, BSA, Velocette - we insure the British classics that defined motorcycling history.
From cafe racers to original heritage bikes, we understand the value and significance of British manufacturing.
The 1980s and 90s Japanese 2-strokes are now firmly classics - and increasingly valuable.
Whether it's an RD350, NSR250, or TZR125, our scheme covers the 2-stroke classics of old and classics of the future.
Ducati, Moto Guzzi, BMW - we cover classic motorcycles from all manufacturers worldwide.
Whatever your classic's origin, our specialist team will work to find you the right cover.
To get the right policy for your classic motorcycle, it's important to understand your cover options. Not sure which level you need? Request a callback and we'll help you choose.
This is the most extensive level of classic motorcycle insurance cover. Fully Comprehensive insurance includes:
Damage to your own bike and any third party from accidents - whether it's your fault or not
Fire damage, theft and compensation for your damaged motorcycle (replacement only if less than 1 year old and policy terms apply)
Agreed value cover protecting your investment
Salvage retention so you can keep your bike if written off
Spare parts cover included
As the name suggests, it's the most comprehensive cover for your classic.
This level of cover offers more protection than Third Party Only. It covers you for:
Injury to other people, or damage to vehicles or property in the case of an accident
Theft or attempted theft of your bike
Fire damage to your classic motorcycle
If you're responsible for an accident, third party fire and theft (TPFT) doesn't cover the cost of repairing or replacing your vehicle.
We offer optional add-ons to enhance your classic motorcycle insurance policy. Discover more about upgrades and extras
Your classic motorcycle insurance cost depends on several factors. Classic bikes can often be more competitive to insure than modern motorcycles because they're typically stored more securely and cover fewer miles.
Make, model and age
Agreed value
Engine size and type (2-stroke, 4-stroke)
Any modifications or restoration status
Security devices fitted (can provide discounts)
Your age and riding experience
Where you store your bike (garage requirements apply - see below)
Your riding history (past claims, convictions, accidents)
Annual mileage (limited mileage options available)
Your licence type
Classic motorcycles must be stored in secure premises when not in use. We have specific storage requirements depending on your bike's value:
Brick-built garage (required for certain bike values)
Wooden shed (bikes up to £4,000)
Secure storage not only protects your investment - it can help reduce your premium.
With over 25 years of experience insuring motorcycles, we understand classic ownership. We work hard to offer competitive quotes while providing the specialist cover your classic deserves.

If you want to know about...
Your motorcycle needs to be built at least 20 years ago to qualify for our classic motorcycle insurance scheme.
This age threshold ensures your bike has genuine classic status and the specialist features included in our scheme (agreed value, salvage retention, spare parts cover) are appropriate for your machine.
Classic motorcycle insurance has been designed specifically for bikes with heritage and value:
Agreed value cover (not depreciating market value)
Salvage retention so you can keep your bike if written off
Spare parts cover protecting your accumulated components
Modifications accepted as part of classic ownership
Limited mileage options for bikes that aren't daily riders
Understanding of restoration projects and show bikes
Standard motorcycle insurance typically offers market value compensation and doesn't include these specialist features
You can insure a classic motorcycle on a standard policy, but you'll miss out on the protections that matter for classic bikes.
If your bike has been restored, modified, or is increasing in value, agreed value cover ensures you're not under-insured. Salvage retention means you can keep the remains if written off. Spare parts cover protects your investment in hard-to-find components.
For heritage bikes that are projects or investments, classic insurance provides the right level of cover.
To get a quote, you'll need:
Your bike's registration number or details (make, model, year)
Your bike's agreed value or what you believe it's worth
Details of any modifications or restoration work
Your riding licence details and how long you've held it
Your postcode and where the bike is stored (garage/shed details)
Your date of birth
Details of any previous claims, convictions or accidents in the last five years
Your no claims bonus (if you have one)
Your estimated annual mileage
Don't worry if you haven't got all the details to hand - request a callback and we can help you through the quote.
If you want to know about...
Agreed value cover means we agree on your bike's value at the start of your policy.
For most classics, values are auto-agreed within our parameters based on your bike's make, model, year and condition. For non-standard valuations (fully restored bikes, rare models, or bikes with significant modifications), our underwriter reviews the value and agrees it with you directly.
If you make a total loss claim, you'll receive the agreed amount - not a depreciated market value that doesn't account for your restoration work, time, and investment.
Salvage retention means that if your classic motorcycle is written off, you'll be offered both a financial settlement and the option to keep your bike's salvage.
This is particularly important for classic owners who want to:
Keep rare or original parts for another project
Rebuild the bike over time
Retain the frame and matching numbers
Not lose components they've spent years collecting
You'll receive a settlement minus the salvage value, and you keep the remains of your bike.
Salvage retention is included as standard in our classic motorcycle scheme. If your bike is written off, you'll automatically be offered the option to retain the salvage.
Spare parts cover protects the additional parts and components you've accumulated for your classic motorcycle.
This cover is included within your agreed value (there's no separate limit). It protects things like spare engines, panels, original parts, period accessories, and components you're storing for future use or ongoing restoration.
If you want to know about...

Yes, we can insure classic motorcycles undergoing restoration as well as fully roadworthy machines.
Whether you're in the middle of a ground-up rebuild or doing running restoration, we can provide cover. You'll need to declare the bike's current state and value when getting a quote.
