- Screen Changes
- Luggage Systems
Can I put a performance exhaust on my 125cc bike?

Motorcycle Licencing Explained
AM Licence:
To obtain your AM licence you will need to be over the age of 16, have obtained a CBT certificate, as well as having passed your motorbike theory and practical tests. CBT also known as Compulsory Basic Training is a day-long training course that will be split into two parts - half in the classroom and the other on the road in the training center. Once your day of training is complete and you have passed, you will recieve your CBT certificate. This will then allow you to ride a moped or scooter with a capacity of up to 50cc.
Category A1 Licence:
For your A1 Licence you must be at least 17 years old, as mentioned above, and have obtained your CBT certificate, as well as passing your theory and practical tests - once you have these you can then ride a motorbike or scooter with a maximium capacity of 125cc (11kW).
Category A2 Licence:
Once you reach 19 years old and over (or have been riding on your previous licence for over two years) you will be able to take your A2 theory and practical tests. After you've passed these tests, you can then ride an A2-compliant motorcycle or scooter with a maximum of capacity of 500cc or 47bhp.
Category A Licence & Category A Licence (Direct Access) - Unrestricted
Once you reach the age of 21 or have been riding on your A2 licence for two years, you will be able to take your full motorcycle test - once you have completed these tests and passed, you are free to ride whichever capacity of motorcycle or scooter you wish.
For DAS route, you must be over 24 years of age to complete the Direct Access course. Once you have passed this course, similar to the above, you are allowed to ride any capacity of motorcycle you wish.
Motorbike licencing can be quite tricky to get your head around. For a full explainer make sure to visit our motorcycle licencing explained blog!
What is CBT? (Compulsory Basic Training)
Compulsory basic training (CBT) is a course you typically take to allow you to ride a motorcycle or moped on the road. CBT training will be completed over a single day, covering elements of theory and knowledge, as well as getting out on the road.
Once you have completed your CBT, it will last you up to two years before it expires, allowing you, if you are 16, to ride a scooter or moped up to 50cc or, if you are 17 (or over), ride up to a 125cc / 11KW / 14.7BHP limit with an L plate on your bike. After the CBT expires you can either retake the course or go on to complete further tests for an A1, A2, or Cat A licence (you'll need a valid CBT in order to take your test).
Excesses Explained
Compulsory: A compulsory excess is set by the insurer at the point of sale (POS) and as the name suggests, is mandatory to pay if you make a claim on your insurance. Typically, the amount of compulsory excess you will have to pay will be determined by the type of motorcycle insurance you have.
Voluntary: Voluntary excess is the optional amount that you can choose to add on top of your compulsory excess. Offering to pay more upfront can often help reduce the price of your premium.

Vehicle Use
When setting up an insurance policy, you will be asked how you intend to use your bike or scooter. You will have three options to choose from, these are:
1. Social, Domestic and Pleasure (SDP)
If you are planning to use your bike for everyday social riding, perhaps that may be seeing friends, going shopping or even doing the school run - this will be the option to choose.
2. Social, Domestic, Pleasure and Commuting
As well as everything mentioned above, this level of cover also includes riding to and from work and/or driving someone else to and from work, as well as commuting to your place of education (school/university/college).
3. Personal Business Use (SDPC + Business Use)
Use covers you to travel to more than one place of work. I.e. multiple offices, sites, shop. However, it does not cover you for delivery or carriage of goods for business purposes. For this, you'd need Fast Food Delivery (FFD) or Carriage of Goods for Hire and Reward (courier).
4. Fast Food Delivery (FDD)
Fast food delivery insurance, always known as hire and reward insurance is used when you are using your vehicle to transport food from restaurants to the customers.
5. Courier Use
Covers you when you are delivering parcels from the depot to the customers' address.
Extras & Add Ons
Alongside your insurance policy, we can also provide add-ons to protect other aspects of your person and/or bike. For more information on each add-on, please visit the relevant page:
- Excess Protection Insurance
- Helmets & Leathers Insurance
- Breakdown Cover

Third Party, Fire & Theft:
Third Party, Fire, and Theft insurance includes coverage for everything under Third Party, but also allows you to claim off your own policy should your vehicle be stolen, or damaged as a result of a fire.
Comprehensive:
Comprehensive insurance includes coverage for everything under Third Party, but also allows you to claim off your own policy should your vehicle be stolen, or damaged as a result of a fire and also covers accident damage of your own vehicle.
