Onto number eight, and we have another sports scoot in the slightly chunky-styled form of the Shuttle 125 from Sinnis.
Available in two colourway options including Canyon Red or Ultimate White, the Shuttle has a true sports scooter aesthetic, well versed from the early noughties. Although this styling may seem a little dated by today’s standards, by no means is it offensive. And if you take into consideration its price of just £1,999 it makes this scoot extremely appealing.
Again, at this price point, you can’t expect a lot when it comes to spec, but there is LED lighting and a USB socket for charging.
Power, too, is admittedly quite low coming in at just 8bhp from the air-cooled 125cc engine but if you intend to have a scooter in a town or city where it won’t be exceeding 40mph too much then it might well be a good option.

Another scooter we have managed to test here at BikeMatters is the Suzuki Address 125
Although fairly undramatic in style, the Address makes up for it by being from a renowned Japanese manufacturer with a history of building quality and dependable machines, so not only should it have longevity on its side, but it will also more than likely fare better than most in regard to resale value.
The Address has been designed as a user-friendly, reliable workhorse designed to do its job well with great fuel consumption figures – Suzuki claims it should achieve 148mpg, although real-world use would likely bring it closer to 110mpg. That, along with traditional Suzuki reliability and quality, makes this a scooter that should be pretty bullet-proof. Last, but by no means least, it’s also very affordably priced, currently at just £2099, while it’s also available in either blue, red, or white.
Oh, and if all that still isn’t enough to tempt you, Suzuki also currently offers its sportier Avenis 125 model from just £2,249!

Sitting at sixth, we have another entry from Lexmoto by way of the Aura 125. Deliberately designed to take on the more expensive big guns of the 125cc scooter market such as the Honda PCX and Yamaha Nmax, the Aura is a very modern and stylish looking scooter at a great price.
With a claimed 86mpg, keyless ignition, a USB charging port, and LED headlight, the Aura has a pretty decent spec considering its bargain price. Best of all, originally priced over £2,500, a reduction means the Aura can now be had for just under £2,200 which really does cement it as a bargain.
The Aura is also one of the more powerful machines on this list putting out 9.7hp from its air-cooled 125cc motor, although that’s still behind the 14.7hp limit you can get from more expensive liquid-cooled scooters in the class.
Available in red or grey, the Aura is nicely in the mix with its level of spec for the price.

Halfway through our list we have the modern and stylish Sym Jet 14 whose sophisticated visuals make it look like it has come from Japan. As such, it’s a cut price competitor to the best the 125cc market has to offer, such as Honda’s PCX and Yamaha’s NMAX.
Its liquid-cooled motor is among the better units in this category producing a shade of over 10hp. While another bonus with the Jet 14 is the variety of colourway options available including satin black, gloss grey, gloss red, white, and blue grey. Combine that with its integrated indicators, smoked, black screen, large twin headlights and modern styling and you’ve a model with genuine mass appeal.
At its current starting price of just £2,299 it’s also something of a bargain for a scooter that not so long ago was costing £2,800.
What’s more, if it’s style and spec isn’t to your liking, Sym also offer the Jet 4 RX (£2,099), Orbit (£1,999) and Fiddle 125 (£2,299) models.
4. Kymco Micare 125 | Price: £2,399

The Micare 125 is from respected Taiwanese scooter specialists Kymco, replaces to old Agility 125 and is also the first ‘big wheeled’ scoot on this list. By ‘big wheel’ we mean that, like Piaggio’s more familiar Liberty model, it has larger front and rear wheels (in this case 14-inch diameter) than the usual on a conventional scooter (Yamaha’s RayZR has a 12-inch front and 10-inch rear by comparison) which give extra stability and more nimble yet secure handling at low speed but at the cost of extra size and sometimes less storage space.
Some also think them less sporty looking, although that’s less the case with the Micare.
It’s Euro5+ compliant, is very light, has decent enough performance, easy-as-pie handling, an LCD digital dash, USB charging port and LED lights and the result is a great all-round compromise of practicality, style, equipment and value. On the slight downside, it’s only available in one colour – silver – but, at this price you can’t have everything!
3. Piaggio Liberty 125 | Price: £2,460

We tested the Piaggio Liberty back in 2023, we were impressed with it then and at its newly reduced price like it even more!
Currently £2,460 it’s an unbelievable bargain in our opinion. The Italian big wheeled scooter has a traditional slim and euro chic style designed for inner city travelling and commuting. With a 16in front and 14in rear wheel, it’s very agile, stable and rider friendly. And, with a professional look about it, you’d expect to see these in their masses around all major European cities with suited and booted riders going to and from the office.
With full LED lighting, it’s available in white, grey or black and, although not be the most thrilling the Liberty has a lot going for it. The frugal, 124cc engine produces just shy of 11hp, can return almost 110mpg and, although not as grand as its big brother, the Medley, is a great scooter with impressive quality, styling and performance with a price more associated with budget Chinese offerings. Oh, and if you want a little more ‘spec’, there’s the Liberty S starting at £2,560, too!
2. Suzuki Burgman Street 125EX | Price: £2,499

Taking runner-up spot is another Suzuki – the Burgman Street EX.
We recently got our hands on the Burgman Street and it's safe to say we are quite the fans. With improved cosmetics and start-stop tech, the Burgman may not have the most thrilling performance, with just over 8hp, but again you also have to take into account its impressive, claimed fuel economy of 148mpg. It also has bags of real-world versatility and usability backed with Suzuki reliability and quality, while a three-year warranty is handy on a 125cc scooter as well!
Although the Burgman name is mostly associated with maxi-scooters, the Street EX is very much the compact, city-dweller. Its looks are a little on the dated side in our opinion, but with integrated indicators and large headlights, it remains a scooter that ticks a lot of boxes. It’s available in grey, black or white.

While last but by no means least in this up to £2500 classification is arguably one of the best 125cc scooters of all – the Yamaha RayZR.
Announced at the tail end of 2023 the RayZR spec initially came across as fairly straightforward, but when its original price was announced at just over £2200 it was clear that, for a quality, Japanese machine, it was also something of a bargain. Yes, we know, that ‘*’ designation above means that the RayZR’s price has now risen to just outside this classification at £2,550 but, fear not, we’ve also seen plenty brand-new examples discounted to £2,300 or even £2,200, so by out reckoning it’s still eligible here.
With modern, sharp lines available in red or black, the RayZR has been developed by Yamaha to be a very cheap and affordable scooter with Yamaha quality and reliability, and it is fair to say the RayZR achieves this.
Yes, with a modest 8hp from its 125cc air-cooled engine, it won’t be pulling any trees up, but like pretty much all on this list, they are cheap commuter scooters, so we are never going to see 14.7hp models here.
There’s also a power-assist function to help with acceleration, as does it’s ultra-low 99kg light weight. The frugal ‘Blue Core’ engine returns great mpgs and it’s still great value, too!
