We here at Bike Matters have been monitoring this scooter for what feels like a lifetime! We first mentioned it in our Top 10 New Scooters 2021 list way back in January but at that time BMW was still keeping the nitty-gritty details close to their chests so we’re very excited that more information has finally been released!
Therefore, it’s only fitting that we take you through the 7 things you need to know about the new electric offering from BMW – the CE 04.
1. Motor
The star of this show is the CE 04’s liquid-cooled electric motor. Situated between the battery and rear wheel, it produces a maximum power output of 31kW AKA 42 hp and a range of 130 km, making it the perfect choice for day-to-day riding or smaller-scale weekend blasts.
Alongside this, it also includes three riding modes – ‘Eco’, ‘Road’ and ‘Rain’ – and a fourth – ‘Dynamic’ – for those who want to move at a swifter pace and add it on as an ex-works option.
2. Batteries and charging
The CE 04 packs a lithium-ion battery that, when completely flat, takes around 4 hours and 20 minutes to revive – very specific, I know. It can be charged using a household socket, wall charge or public station.
Quick charging is also available at an additional cost and has been based on the tried and tested formula used in their cars. It reduces the charge time to 1 hour and 40 minutes, and if the battery has 20% left and you want to charge it to 80%, it will only take 45 minutes.
Be aware though that you will need a Mode 3 charging cable for fast charging when using a wall charge or public station.
3. Styling
Forget back to the future, with the CE 04 you’ve stepped into the future! The styling is focused, striking, modern and innovative.
The two available colourways, ‘Light White’ or ‘Style Avantgarde’, are complemented with matt black sections, pops of bright orange detailing and a ‘floating seat’.
It’s a beautiful and extreme statement of contemporary urban mobility that is guaranteed to turn a few heads and catch a few eyes!
4. Equipment and technology
When it comes to equipment and technology, the CE 04 comes fitted with a 10.25” TFT colour screen with navigation and smartphone connectivity, side and rear storage compartments, USB-C charging port and all-round LED lights including front headlamp, rear lights and indicators all as standard.
In addition to this, Adaptive Headlight Pro can be added for further improved road illumination whilst going round corners but, again, will be at an additional cost.
5. Brakes
Brakes-wise, the CE 04 features a front twin-disc brake supported by a rear single disc. ABS is used for extra safety and, for even better control when braking round corners, ABS Pro can be added as an ex-works option.
6. Suspension
A tubular steel frame is at the heart with telescopic front forks and a single-sided swingarm to the rear.
7. Price
Whilst the £11,700 price tag may seem daunting you’ve got to consider the savings you’ll be making over time – especially if you’re commuting in and out of a city like London by car or public transport.
Say goodbye not only to the stressful morning traffic and unfriendly strangers but to train fares, petrol prices and congestion charges and hello to convenience and super low charging costs.

The last stop
BMW themselves state it’s “at the top of the scooter segment” but can this futuristic e-scoot live up to that statement or is it slightly ahead of its time? Only time will tell so we’re going to have to wait and see.
Overall though, it’s clear to see that BMW is definitely trying to shake up the market with their CE 04. It’s a very modern option that’s just as radical in looks as it is spec. It’s by no means the most affordable but if you do have the budget then I can confidently say you won’t be disappointed.
