The scooter Rally calendar is chock-a-block, and that’s not just because of the absence of Rallies and events over the last few years because of COVID-19.
With their return, 2022 makes for an exciting and extremely busy season. And if you, like us, can’t wait to get back on the horse (or Lambretta, Vespa, or whatever your chosen steed is), then stick with us in this guide as we highlight some of the biggest scooter events in the UK!
Whitby BSRA National Rally (15th-18th April)
Running over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and kicking off the scooter Rally season, Whitby is the first of the BSRA National Rallies for 2022.
As well as an abundance of scoots to lust over, two nights of entertainment including live bands and DJs are also scheduled. On top of that, a Sunday Rideout hosted by the Whitby Scooter Club is set to take place.
The Rally campsite is located at Broadings Farm, Guisborough Road, Whitby, Y021 1TL, and no pre-booking is necessary for scooters or camping. However, for campervans and motorhomes, you must pre-pay and pre-book. The site is open from 12 pm on the 15th and closes at 12 pm on the 18th of April.
Weekend tickets bought in advance cost £16 and evening tickets for both Friday and Saturday also bought in advance, cost £7. You can find all information on tickets at https://vfmscoot.co.uk/tickets/.
Location: Whitby Pavilion Complex, YO21 3EN.
Bangers and Mash Rally (22nd-24th April)
Hosted by the Can’t Start Won’t Start Scooter Club (CSWSSC), get a huge helping of the Bangers and Mash Rally from the 22nd-24th of April.
With a number of live bands performing, an outdoor disco, stalls and a bouncy castle, this is an event for the whole family to enjoy.
The finer details you need to know are that gates open from 10 am. Scooter parking is free but parking for cars costs £5 and campervans or caravans cost £10. Pre-booked tickets cost £15, and tickets bought at the gate cost £20.
Location: MFN, Shipley Gate, Eastwood, Nottingham, NG16 3JE.
Tenby BSRA National Rally (29th April-2nd May)
Starting the party on the 29th of April and finishing on Bank Holiday Monday, the Tenby Rally is another regular on the BSRA National Rally list and a place that’s been a favourite amongst the local scooter clubs since the late 90s.
Its offerings will be similar to what we’ve seen in past years. This includes a Saturday afternoon Rideout around Pembrokeshire, live bands such as The Riff, Future Sailors and The Navarones, a retro, reggae and soul room, a custom show, parts fair and an end of rally party.
Advance weekend entertainment tickets cost £15, and this is the same for access to the campsite which can be paid on arrival.
Location: De Valence Pavilion/Tenby United RFC, Upper Frog Street, Tenby, SA70 7JD.
Skegness Scooter Rally (29th April-2nd May)
The Skegness Scooter Rally is another that falls over a Bank Holiday weekend. So pack up your two-wheeled machine and get ready for four days of all things scooters including a parts fair and custom show, live bands and a selection of top Rally DJs led by Dave Porter of Scooterist Internet Radio. Can you think of a better way to spend your Early May Bank Holiday weekend, I think not!
To attend for the weekend, wristbands costing £25 must be pre-ordered. Also available are Friday and Saturday evening wristbands costing £12.50 each night and Saturday day passes for £5. Entry for those under 16's is free for the whole event.
Location: The Suncastle and The Savoy Hotel.
Mid-Cheshire Charity Rally (6th-7th May)
The Mid-Cheshire Charity Rally and Beer Festival (I know, there couldn’t be a better combination, could there!) makes a comeback for 2022 on the 6th and 7th of May.
Providing the best of both two-wheels and one of the UK’s favourite refreshments, celebrate the start of the summer with a variety of ales, a custom scooter show, tug of war, live music, disco, children’s entertainment and facilities for those staying over in either a caravan, motorhome or tent.
For tickets, you’ll need to visit heartfest.co.uk
Location: Lady Heyes Holiday Park, Frodsham, Cheshire, WA6 6SU.
Kelso BSRA National Rally (2nd-5th June)
As the only Scottish Scooter Rally in the BSRA calendar, the Kelso Rally is one we here at Lexham have attended many a time. It’s also one that is taking full advantage of this year’s June four-day bank holiday weekend (thank you, Queenie!).
Just like all the other BSRA Rallies, you’ll roughly know what to expect – a parts fair, custom show, live music and camping facilities. But Kelso adds to that a silent disco and on-site tattooist so if you see a custom scooter that you can’t get out of your head, you can get inked and remember it forever!
The cost to enter the Rally is £20 for the weekend, and that’s the same for the car park per vehicle.
Location: Border Union Agricultural Showground, Springwood Park, Kelso TD5 8LS.
Big 7 BSRA National Rally (10th-12th June)
With hundreds of scooters and people through the gate and a bit of Great British sunshine (hopefully, you never can guarantee it!), the Big 7 Rally is one that’s hard to beat.
As one of the biggest events in the BSRA calendar, the Big 7 hosts a National custom show, access to a Dynomometer to discover whether your scooter is the fastest on-site, parts fair, live bands and, as per usual, a selection of national and international DJs performing over the weekend. This is another Rally Lexham likes to attend, and we can say first-hand, that it really kicks off the summer!
Tickets for the weekend cost £25, weekend car parking also costs £25 and weekend parking for your van, motorhome or caravan costs £60, all can be purchased through the website.
Location: Hop Farm, Paddock Wood, Maidstone Rd, Beltring, Tonbridge TN12 6QF.
Cleethorpes BSRA National Rally (1st-3rd July)
Located in Meridian Park, the BSRA National Rally at Cleethorpes holds scooters at the heart of its event (as they should be!) and offers a scooters-only campsite at Meridian Park. Alongside that, you can get your fix of all things retro with evening entertainment that includes 2 music rooms with live performances and guest DJs and a custom show and parts fair that’s taking place on the Saturday.
Your ticket will cost you £20 but that covers entry and all evening dos across the weekend.
Location: Meridian Showground Events Arena, Kings Rd, Cleethorpes DN35 0AR.
Weymouth BSRA National Rally (15th-17th July)
Marking the middle of summer, what better way to spend it than at yet another BSRA National Rally but this time, in Weymouth.
The last time Weymouth saw a Scooter Rally was way back in 1983, so 37 years later, it’s great to see its return. Celebrations begin on the 15th until the 17th of July, and they don’t sound like they are going to disappoint. With live entertainment, a trade show, custom show and Rideout taking place over the weekend. The only thing to note is that this is an adult event.
Tickets start at £10, but they vary in type and price. However, there is no pressure to book as organisers have said to just turn up on the day.
Location: Weymouth Pavilion, The Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8ED.
Isle of Wight BSRA National Rally (26th-29th August)
Scooters gather from far and wide for the Isle of Wight BSRA National rally, and, as usual, it’s taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Get ready to jump on the ferry because with classic scoots, beers, entertainment and sunshine aplenty (is there a better way to spend your extra days off work?), this well-known Rally offers camping, live music, a custom show and Sunday Rideout, which is an event in itself and not to be missed! Feel free to dress as you wish, but many go for fancy dress. I’ve looked through past photos and seen anything from bananas to nuns, riding a Vespa so how crazy you go is really up to you!
Just remember to secure your ticket before the 16th of August!
We’ve still got a little while to go seeing as it takes place towards the end of the summer, but it’s definitely one to wait for! And one where we’ll see you there!
Location: Sandown Airport, Scotchells Brook Lane, Sandown, P036 0JP.
Mersea Island Rally (2nd-4th September)
Established in 1993, the Mersea Island Rally is one of the longest-running.
Organised by Colchester DVLC, this Rally is putting on a show of Scooterist Radio DJs playing classic party anthems, silent disco (who doesn’t love one of those?!), live bands and plenty of outdoor games – you’re never too old to throw an egg, play tug of war or a selection of others that I’ve never heard of such as 'Where’s Me Beer', 'Sponge Bob' and 'Beer & Banana' (which sounds...interesting...), but I can imagine they’ll all be entertaining enough because they include alcohol!
It guarantees a lot of old-school fun so get yourself down to Colchester over the weekend of the 2nd-4th of September. All ticket information can be found on the website.
Location: Essex Outdoors, Rewsall Lane, East Mersea, Colchester Essex, C05 8SX.
Woolacombe BSRA National Rally (23rd-26th September)
With scooters in every colour of the rainbow and in every combination you will (and some you won’t have) thought of, plus everything you can expect to see at the other BSRA Rallies, Woolacombe takes place from the 23rd and until the 26th of September.
Location: Golden Coast Holiday Village, Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks, EX34 7HW.
Southport BSRA National Rally (28th-30th October)
The Southport is the final on the list today and brings the BSRA National Rally season to a close for 2022. And, as it’s the last in the diary, you’ll want to throw yourself into everything it has to offer!
Of course, being the last rally of the year, Southport also brings an end to the BSRA Rally Championship which will see the three big awards being handed out, including best-supporting female, best-supporting male and best-supporting club which we at Lexham are proud to have sponsored for many years now!
I can only imagine that once this Rally is over, the countdown for the 2023 Rally season begins – I know it definitely does for us!
Location: Prince of Wales Hotel, Southport.
The Last Stop!
‘Tis the season to scooter and I have a feeling it’s going to be one to remember! If you do attend any of the Rallies mentioned, please send us your photos on social media or drop us a message telling us how you got on!
Happy Scootering!
